Professional Profile

I am a dedicated artist-educator who has been exploring the development of unique art educational experiences  in a variety of contexts. I have experience working with K-12, young adult, and adult learners. My work embraces an interdisciplinary approach with a focus on  social-emotional learning, intergration of technology, and collaboration.

Teaching Experience

Makers Camp with Engine, Bidderford, ME April 2018 

Through science, technology, engineering, art, and math students, aged 7-11 will learn about the curious world around them. In this week long camp, students will use the scientific method to ask questions, make observations, experiment with processes, analyse data, and communicate results when developing their artful creations.

Hall-Dale High School, Farmingdale, ME February 26- April 12, 2018

Using state and national teaching standards, I have developed and implemented appropriate curriculum and teaching methods for grades 9-12 in areas of Printmaking, Metalsmithing, Foundation art, Introduction to Photography,  Advanced Photography, and Advanced Painting and Drawing.

Riverton Elementary School Portland, ME January 2-February 16, 2018  

Applying standards-based and research-informed methods of instruction design for PK-five, I explored and developed a series of  appropriate curriculum and teaching methods for PK-five.

Using Visual Thinking Strategies I drew upon knowledge of cross-disciplinary skills and content arts to help seventh and eighth grade students make connections, and creatively apply understanding.

 Westbrook Middle School, ELL Arts Integration Workshop Westbrook ME October 2017

During this two day workshop I worked with a teaching partner to bring a multi-sensory art experience to grade five students at Westbrook Middle School. Art making was explored through sound, taste, sight, and poetry  to stimulate goals to increase visual and verbal literacy and engage students.

 The Cedars Retirement Community, Portland ME September 2017

During this two day  project I interfaced with intergenerational dementia patients at The Cedars Retirement Community. Watercolor painting blended with music integration as means to evoke emotion, stimulate positive interactions and manage stress.

 Learning Works Nonprofit, Portland ME November 2017

In this 6 week intergenerational after school art program for students ages five through ten, I worked in tandem with a teaching partner to implement a curriculum that was carefully scaffolded to promote artistic development by promoting learner differences, innovative applications of content, and safe and engaging learning environments. The program was aimed at promoting visual literacy skills for at risk youth and ELL learners.

As adjunct arts faculty I was responsible for the development and implementation of arts curriculum for Foundation Art and Studio Drawing. My focus on the development of student led learning with attention the development of artistic dispositions have impacted many of my arts explorations today.

Artists’ Exchange Non Profit, Cranston, RI August 2012- June 2017

As a teaching artist I developed and implemented curriculum based arts programing in a variety of instructional contexts including basic art for adults with developmental exceptionalities, drawing and painting ages eight through ten, stop motion animation ages eleven through fourteen, summer art camps for ages five through seven,  and painting and drawing community classes for young adult and adult populations.
